Just Like You

Just Like You

AKA (otherwise known as me) Creating the Artist Uniform.

Text:
in 1950 Hans Namuth documented the artist Jackson Pollock at work in his Manhattan and Long Island studios.  Over the course of a year Hans created 2 sets of photo documents, 500 images and two 16 millimeter films. These 50 plus year old images forever cemented the visual relationship between the artist and the artist as worker. From that day forward the artist had an identifiable uniform by which to be associated. The uniform consists of a t-shirt (black or white) and a pair of jeans (blue or black) and function shoes.

This uniform has lasted from abstract expressionism of the 50’s to minimalism through pop art and the yba’s of the 90’s. from Pollack to Acconci,  Acconci to Gonzalez-Torres, Gonzalez-Torres to Barney.

The uniform binds the individual to a group. This uniform binds me to a history.
